Ascension Credit Union is Ascension Parish’s only Community Financial Institution dedicated to serving Ascension Parish Residents! Structured as a financial cooperative, the credit union is owned and operated entirely by its membership - by the people of Ascension Parish.

Brief History
+- • 1974: Chartered Ascension School Employees Credit Union – Serving only APSB employees.
- • 1986: Moved to existing location; 2430 S. Burnside Ave.
- • 1992: Built existing Main Office building.
- • 2008: Became Ascension CU; expanded membership to Ascension Parish residents
- • 2017: Major Main Office renovation.
- • 2019: Expanded membership to “Live, Work or Worship” in Ascension Parish

Ascension Credit Union Banks Not-for-profit financial institution offering a full range of financial products and services. For-profit corporations which offer a full range of financial products and services. Earnings are returned to members through services like free ATMs, better rates and lower fees. Earnings go to stockholders in the form of dividends. Insured by NCUA up to $250,000. Insured by FDIC up to $250,000. Ascension Credit Union is democratically governed and elections are based on a one-member, one-vote philosophy. Banks are governed by paid shareholders. Voting rights depend on the number of shares owned. Convenient access to more than 5,600 branch locations from coast to coast Banks require customers to use their branches for services or pay fees. Some services are unavailable outside the bank. Ascension Credit Union is a local, community based financial institutions. Members support their local communities when they bank at a credit union. Banks are big! The average size of a bank is double that of a credit union. Ascension Credit Union has members, not shareholders. Banks have customers and shareholders. They must make money from their customers to please shareholders.
